Over two hundred lawyers and female lawyers were trained under “The Lawyer of Tomorrow” Program, developed and implemented during 2016-2018 with the support of the Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine Project

The training of the second hundred of lawyers and female lawyers in the framework of the professional development program “The Lawyer of Tomorrow” was completed, which had been implemented by the Association of Ukrainian Lawyers in partnership with the public organization “All-Ukrainian Association of Lawyers Providing Free Legal Aid”. The Canadian-funded Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine Project completed three years of expert and financial support of this initiative, covering both the development and implementation of the Program in 2016-2018. In 2018, “The Lawyer of Tomorrow” Program was also supported by the US Embassy’s in Ukraine Law Enforcement Section.

LEGAL AID SYSTEM IN UKRAINE: AN OVERVIEW

This Overview of the Ukrainian legal aid system was prepared within the framework of the Canadian-Ukrainian project Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine. This Overview is the result of the efforts of the Project team in close cooperation with the Project partner, the Coordination Center for Legal Aid Provision. This publication describes the key elements and main performance indicators of the Ukrainian free legal aid system. Developed in 2014 for the first time, the publication is being constantly updated.

The advice from legal counsels about what to do, who to contact and what documents to file when you or someone else is suffering from family violence.

Results Oriented Management: Kyiv hosted a three-day strategic session of heads of FSLA regional and local centers and a team of the Coordination Centre for Legal Aid Provision

The Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine Project continues to systematically support the development of the capacity for strategic planning in the system of free legal aid. On 2-4 December 2018, with the financial support of the Project, a strategic session of heads of FSLA regional and local centers and a team of the Coordination Centre for Legal Aid Provision was held. This year’s event is the fourth annual meeting in this format, held with the assistance of the Project and bringing together over 120 heads of FSLA centers for the discussion of results and plans of improving the availability and quality of free legal aid to people in Ukraine.

Gender Strategy for the provision of free legal aid was developed with the support of the Project

The system of free legal aid in Ukraine will apply a comprehensive approach to the cross-cutting integration of gender equality issues in its work. From now on, this is documented in the Gender Legal Aid Strategy (hereinafter referred to as the Gender Strategy), which was developed with the support of the Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine Project implemented by the Canadian Bureau for International Education in partnership with the Coordination Centre for Legal Aid Provision and funded Government of Canada.
