JurFem Summer School for law students was held for the first time in Kyiv

JurFem Summer School for Female Law Students is the initiative of the Ukrainian Women Lawyers Association “JurFem”, implemented for the first time in Ukraine. It was held in Kyiv on 6-9 August, with the support of the Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine Project, implemented by the Canadian Bureau for International Education in partnership with the Coordination Centre for Legal Aid Provision and funded by the Government of Canada.

In Kyiv, prospects for the development of a WikiLegalAid legal advice platform discussed

On 1-2 August 2018, with the support of the Project, experts from 23 centers for the provision of legal aid in Ukraine and the Coordination Center discussed the prospects for the development and efficient functioning of WikiLegalAid information platform for legal advice.  The most active developers of WikiLegalAid participated in the event. The event was aimed at forming an effective team of authors, called “Wikings”, who will continue working on the development and promotion of WikiLegalAid.

Trainings for the development of “soft skills” have been held for specialists of the FLA system

On May 17 – July 4, 2018, with the support of the Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine Project, 19 training sessions were held for specialists from the centers providing free secondary legal aid (FSLA) from all regions of Ukraine aimed at developing communication “soft skills”. More than 320 specialists of the centers providing FSLA participated in the training.

“Free legal aid is always nearby”: an information campaign on the right to free legal aid was presented

7 information posters and 6 social videos, where clients of the system of the provision of free legal aid (LA systems) from different parts of Ukraine featured. These information products were presented today during a briefing at the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center within the framework of the “Free Legal Aid is Always Nearby” information campaign. They tell stories of people whose rights were protected and interests defended due to the LA system. The posters and videos were developed with the support of the Ukrainian-Canadian Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine Project.

Second, enlarged edition of “AGAINST VIOLENCE” collected volume was published

On June 8, during the First All-Ukrainian Forum of Women Lawyers “Women in the Legal Profession: Achievements, Challenges and Impact”, a second, enlarged edition of “AGAINST VIOLENCE” collected volume was presented. The collected volume was published for the second time in 5,000 copies. It is a part of the literary and media human rights initiative implemented by the Hromadske Radio with the support of the Government of Canada within the framework of the Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine Project.

Kyiv hosted the First All-Ukrainian Forum of Women Lawyers

On June 8 and 9, a milestone event in the human rights sphere of Ukraine took place in Kyiv, the First All-Ukrainian Forum of Women Lawyers “Women in the Legal Profession: Achievements, Challenges and Impact on the Quality of Legal Protection”, organized by “JurFem”, the Association of Women Lawyers, with the expert and financial support to the Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine Project.
