
On 26 January, the specialists of the Coordination Center for Legal Aid Provision held a strategic session on the planning of its activities for 2018 and in the mid-term. The event was conducted with the support of the Canadian-Ukrainian Project Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine funded by the Global Affairs Canada and implemented by the Canadian Bureau for International Education.
Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine Gia Getsadze, acting Director of the Coordination Center for Legal Aid Provision Oleksiy Boniuk, and Manager of the Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine Project Oksana Kikot opened the event and wished participants fruitful work.
Ivanna Ibragimova, Expert Team Leader of the Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine Project moderated the event.
During the day, the session participants had an opportunity to summarize the results of activities in 2017 and discuss priority activity areas in the current year, including the improvement of access to legal aid, improvement of legal aid quality, development of human resources in the system, efficiency of the functioning of the legal aid system/institutions providing this aid, and possibilities of increasing it.
Head of the Department for Strategic Planning and Finances Svitlana Zdryliuk presented the summarized indicators of the LA system for 2017 (view).
Deputy Director Serhiy Trotsenko told about priority areas of the system development in the draft Government Priority Action Plan for 2018.
Afterwards, the specialists of the Coordination Center worked in 6 working groups, discussing in detail priority areas of their activities and planning events within the framework thereof. Later that day, all of them had a chance to present and discuss the results to be included in the Action Plan of the Coordination Center for 2018.
The same day, state experts of the newly established Directorate for Human Rights, Access to Justice and Legal Awareness worked together with the colleagues from the Coordination Center. Its Director General Vladyslav Vlasiuk also participated in the event.
This event belongs to the series of events for teams of the Coordination Center and free secondary legal aid centres held with the support of the Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine Project and aimed at strengthening the capacity for the strategic planning of activities.
