A workshop on using WikiLegalAid reference platform for legal consultations was held in Chernihiv on 21-22 December with the support of the Ukrainian-Canadian Project Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine. Participants of the educational event included employees of local FSLA centres in Chernihiv region; it was held by specialists of the Coordination Center and Kyiv Interregional Resource and Communication Platform.
The event aimed at sharing positive experience of using WikiLegalAid platform when consulting clients of the LA system and a more detailed familiarization with its functionality.
WikiLegalAid is an information database, functioning based on the principle of the well-known Wikipedia; it is being replenished with legal consultations on the most relevant issues corresponding to actual requests from the system clients coming to legal aid centres and bureaus in all regions of the country. Lawyers of the system enter legal information on various topics. “This is a joint work of professional lawyers across the system, based on the actual practice of the legal aid provision in Ukraine”, said Head of the Department for Analysis and Examinations of the Coordination Center Hanna Meredova.
This training event was held by Hanna Meredova, Head of Kyiv Interregional Resource and Communication Platform Serhiy Kucheruk, and his Deputy Vitaliy Okhrimenko, Head of the Department for Ensuring Quality Legal Aid Viktoriia Mitko, Head of the Department for Expert and Analytical Support of Legal Aid Provision Nataliya Zaytseva and her Deputy Valentyna Nykonchuk. Director of the Regional FSLA centre in Chernihiv region Iryna Protchenko, her Deputy Olesia Pyrkovska and Director of Chernihiv local FSLA centre Volodymyr Bobruiko also took part in this event.
During the event, practical methods of using the platform were provided, allowing the participants to learn about the WikiLegalAid platform in more detail; there was a workshop and practical exercises given on searching for and preparing legal consultations on the platform, as well as their correction. The workshop participants were practising to provide legal aid using the platform in various simulated situations.
“Legal case studies, designed on the basis of the true stories, client actors, consulting, and expert comments in real time, exchange of experience, fantastic atmosphere, inspired eyes of the participants and organizers — all of this created an atmosphere of a collective legal mind”, shared Vitaliy Okhrimenko his impressions of the workshop.
The workshop is expected to improve the skills of LA experts on using WikiLegalAid platform, update existing legal consultations and create new ones, formulate proposals concerning the improvement of the WikiLegalAid platform functionality.
This is the second training event of this kind held this year. This spring, the experts of the LA system contact-centre in Sumy attended a workshop on working with the WikiLegalAid platform. The contact-centre was opened in summer. Its operators provide legal consultations to callers on the single contact number of the LA system, 0 800 213 103.
