With the support of the Project Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine, booklets “Free Legal Aid in Ukraine” for people with visual impairment were published in the amount of 30,000 copies. The booklets printed in Braille describe the types of free legal aid and ways of obtaining it, in particular, for the most vulnerable and sensitive categories of people, including people with disabilities.
The Ukrainian Association of the Blind (UTOS) is an all-Ukrainian voluntary non-governmental organization of people with visual disabilities, now including over 30,000 members. The booklets on free legal aid for such people were prepared by the editorial office of the Ukrainian Association of the Blind, “The Call” (“Zaklyk”), in collaboration with the Coordination Centre for Legal Aid Provision [1], supported by the Ukrainian-Canadian Project Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine. All booklets will be distributed to the UTOS oblast organizations, educational institutions for children with visual impairments, rehabilitation and educational institutions of the UTOS, as well as the UTOS libraries in all regions of Ukraine.
In addition, the same booklets will be sent to legal aid centers and bureaus, in order to support their activities on raising legal awareness among relevant target groups.
“Access to justice for vulnerable groups depends on how well they are aware of their rights and ways of their protection. That is why the building of legal awareness is very important, and we hope that Braille booklets will promote the dissemination of information among people with visual disabilities of how the system of free legal aid can help in the realization and protection of their rights,” said Oksana Kikot, the manager of Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine Project.
If legal aid centers and bureaus in the regions, as well as the UTOS organizations and other organizations dealing with people with visual impairments need more, it is possible to print more copies of these information booklets. In order to have it done, please contact the Project office:
