From now on, anyone with Internet access can find necessary information on current legal issues. In order to do this, go to the WikiLegalAid information resource at wiki.legalaid.gov.ua. This resource was presented today, on December 13, and its development during the last two years was carried out with the support of the Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine Project.
WHAT IS WIKILEGALAID?
WikiLegalAid is a Wikipedia-based information platform. It has been developed and maintained by a network of specialists, men and women, of the Coordination Centre for Legal Aid Provision and its territorial offices, legal aid centers and bureaus. The platform contains legal advice on various topics. These consultations were designed taking into account the most frequent requests of clients to the system of free legal aid.
Information on WikiLegalAid is constantly maintained up-to-date, taking into account changes in the legislation and jurisprudence in Ukraine. This base can be used by practicing lawyers, law students, human rights activists, and ordinary citizens. Consultations are prepared so as to be understood not only by specialists but also by people without legal training. Access to all the information contained in the database is free for users of the platform.
HOW TO USE WIKILEGALAID?
The platform is very easy to use. Go to the main page of wiki.legalaid.gov.ua. In order to find information, enter the word or its root in the search box on the main page. The list of consultations contained in the database for this word or root will appear on the screen. You can also find the necessary information through the category of WikiLegalAid by the branches of law, the option for which is also placed on the main page.
“The Legal Advice Database contains over 1,400 consultations on the most urgent legal issues clients are referring to the LA system. In addition to legal information, WikiLegalAid contains not only references to regulatory acts, but also examples of procedural documents and references to court decisions,” said Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine Denys Chernyshov during the platform presentation.
“WikiLegalAid platform is simple, exhaustive, and relevant. This is indeed Ukrainian legal Wikipedia. Its base will be constantly expanded taking into account the requests of the LA system clients,“, said Director of the Coordination Center for Legal Aid Provision Oleksii Bonyuk. According to him, first, this resource existed as “internal”, exclusively for employees of the LA system. However, over the course of two years, a lot of useful information, which can be widely used, was been accumulated. That is why the LA system opens access to WikiLegalAid.
The work on the development and improvement of the platform became possible due to the support of the Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine Project. Thus, with the support of the Project, 21 trainings were held on the development, support and use of WiKiLegalAid by the LA system’s professionals, including 3 trainings for users, 15 trainings for authors and one training to form a key team of those who support WiKiLegalAid. Among the participants of these trainings were 420 employees and employees of the LA system, who had the opportunity to improve the skills of using the platform, learned to create new legal advice, update the information already placed, etc.
According to Oksana Kikot, Project Manager in Ukraine, WikiLegalAid platform is an innovation in the system of free legal aid, which began as a pursuit of excellence: to combine the efforts of the system’s lawyers so that their expertise, knowledge and experience can be put into quality legal advice. “This is a step towards strengthening the legal capacity of citizens, as with the opening of this platform, people in Ukraine will have one more tool to learn about their rights and to protect them,” she said.
