On 10 and 11 October 2016, the second meeting of the working group for development of the model programme on the provision of legal aid (hereinafter — the model programme) and methodological recommendation for bodies of local self-government (hereinafter — the methodological recommendations) was held in the capital. The event was organized by the Coordination Center for Legal Aid Provision with the support of the Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine Project and Human Rights and Justice programme initiative of the International Renaissance Foundation.
The meeting participants included representatives of public organizations, directors of local free secondary legal aid centres, heads and chief specialists of departments for relations with subjects of primary legal aid, heads of local self-government bodies, experts of the International Renaissance Foundation and Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine Project, employees of the Coordination Center for Legal Aid Provision.
The meeting of the working group was held with a view to summarizing and spreading the positive experience in the field of development, support, and adoption of regional/local legal aid programmes.
During the presentation of the model programme, event participants discussed the programme’s content blocks and exchanged their experience concerning its enhancement; as a part of the practical group work, they worked on developing the content of the draft legal aid programme based on the specified topics.
In addition, during the meeting, draft methodological recommendations were reviewed, namely the structure justification and content blocks of the document were discussed, changes were made based on the discussion results.
After the meeting, the participants agreed upon the first version of the draft model programme and methodological recommendations, divided the responsibilities within the work group in order to finalize them by the end of November this year.
